An image map is an image that has been divided into regions, or hotspots; when a hotspot is clicked an action occurs, for example a new file opens.
Quick Reminder:
Start with your image on your page and decide which pages you wish to link to.
Use the mapping tool to make the hotspot shapes. Create the links.
The image above shows the Properties Inspector Bar when you click on the image you have inserted. The mapping tools (3 shapes) are at the bottom left.

You need an image of the appropriate size and the pages you want to link to.
Start with your image on the page. Select the image (click on it) to show the mapping shapes on the Properties Inspector bar at the bottom of the page. There are three shapes: rectangle, circle and polygon. You can make detailed shapes with the polygon.

Select your chosen shape. You will be prompted to fill in the alternative text box. (Alt on Properties Inspector bar)
Outline your hotspot. If using the polygon make sure the outline joins up.
Select the hotspot and use the Link section of the Properties Inspector bar to make the link.
Make the other hotspots.
In this example there are hot spots that are links to the home page, dictionary and instructions pages list.
