Anchor Links
Anchor links mark a place in a file that a link will take you to. They can be used to take you to a different place on a long page or to a specific place in another file.
Note you can make simple links from one file to another but these do not take you to a specific place.
For example this is a link to the dictionary, it takes you to the top of the dictionary page; but this is an anchor link to the anchor link definition within the dictionary.
Note each anchor has a name - this enables you to make links easily to the anchor from several different places by writing the anchor link name in the link box on the Properties Inspector bar.
See DW Help: Link to a Specific Place in a Document.
To make an anchor link on the same page:
First mark the place you want to go to with an anchor: put cursor where you want the anchor and then
Either: from top bar Insert → Named Anchor
or: Insert menu bar → Common → anchor icon (looks like an anchor!)
Name the anchor.
Then select the word(s) you want to go from, and in the link box write #[anchorname]
Example, if you want to go to the top of the page and your anchor is called top then put in #top
OR
drag the link icon to the right of the link box (looks like a wheel, or target) to the anchor. (When dragging but also needing to scroll you can drag to the scroll bar at the side of the page until you reach the level you need then continue by dragging across to your destination.)
Remember to check that links work in Preview in Browser.
To make an anchor link to a specific place on another page:
Insert the anchor link where you want to go to, as above.
At the place you want to go from select the word(s) that will make the link
Then if the anchor is on a document in the same folder write [filename.html]#[anchorname] in the link box
eg: dictionary.html#anchor (note no spaces)
If it is elsewhere on the site you can use the browse icon next to the link icon (looks like a folder) to make a link to the file then add the # sign and the anchor link name after it.
Example: the anchor link above was linked to sitename/pages/dictionary.html#anchor
To undo an anchor link:
Select the anchor icon and delete it.
